It Starts with Us by Colleen Hoover
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
It was cute... that's about it. Major difference from It Ends With Us which I really really enjoyed. This book was more so the flavour of a normal average CoHo book.
It actually bothered me a lot how Lily's her ex-husband Ryle was portrayed. Yes we know he's an abusive partner but he also had a very kind seductive way about him in the first book that made him a very interesting character. You didn't know if he was good for Lily or bad. He was very crafty and manipulative in the first book. Where as in this book... he seemed like an extremely abusive moody dooshbag with no character depth. I literally felt like he was a pylon in this whole book. Ryle was an afterthought, he was an extra, he wasn't anything. He was just a tool to portray 'the abusive partner.' I was soooo disappointed in that.
This story is alllllll about just Lily and Atlas and their romance. Don't expect anything else.
I mean CoHo did warn me a little with the discretion in the beginning of the book stating that due to considerable amount of love for the first book she wasn't going to write this book but she did it for the fans. Hence, this definitely feels like a fan fic!!!
I also feel like the whole Josh side line story and the mom was boring and just added fluff... idk it wasn't interesting.
