I have been wanting to read this book, and this series FOR EVERRRRRRR. So glad I'm getting to it now because I love it! Love the characters, love the world!
I was quite surprised at how much the movie embellishes and expands on things. Dare I say the movies are better than the book? XD Well it's a average sized book that went into 3 massive movies so I guess that's why.
The beginning was very similar to the movie, the middle was mostly similar and the ending was pretty different. By different I mean the same stuff happened in general but the movie had more characters, more plot points. Literally the last 15% of the book was the whole 3rd movie XD As much as I love this book, The Desolation of Smaug (the movie) did a better job than the book.
Also, we don't even meet Frodo or Sam in The Hobbit! Huge difference there.
