Review: Together: Why Social Connection Holds the Key to Better Health, Higher Performance, and Greater Happiness
Together: Why Social Connection Holds the Key to Better Health, Higher Performance, and Greater Happiness by Vivek H. Murthy
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Good book, very anecdotal, lots of stories...
Talks about how COVID right now is changing us and the social needs that we have as humans.
It's made me more empathetic and understanding to people that suffer from loneliness and the lack of human social connection. Connection is so important to our lives, health, and wellbeing.
I feel like I read a lot and it's interesting but I didn't take any notes lol
Loneliness kills...

Review: Pretty Things
Pretty Things by Janelle Brown
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Wow I really binged this book haha it's pretty long and I finished it in almost under 24hr XD
It was good! Twists and turns and exciting and wanting to figure out more and more and wondering where it's going to go.
I feel like summing up this book would give too much away haha but basically it's about a smart manipulative con artist girl who wants to get revenge con on this entitled, rich, self obsessed girl she knew back in highschool because of what her family did to her.
I like how a book showed the Instagram influencer lifestyle and internal and external POV of it.
I liked how well the narrative switched from Nina's POV to Vanessa's point of view in the chapters.
The ending was good but I was expecting it the whole time. I think I've rad so many novels at this point it's difficult to really shock me haha but I still enjoyed the whole journey! Ashley/Nina and Vanessa are great characters. Nina is introverted, caring, self aware, manipulative, smart, witty and Vanessa is beautiful, rich, healthy, very Instagram savvy, but pretty dull minded.
I feel like this would make for a better movie than book. Reason in spoiler below.
(view spoiler)[
- I totally called it that Nina's mother and Benny were conning her, saw it from a mile away. I always knew Lachlan's accident was going to be fake. I knew her mom was conning Nina since she started conning men from work and really only seems to care about herself.
- I feel like Vanessa was overthe top sometimes with her dumb innocent perspective on things
- It was a bit much that they murdered Lachlan in the end
- I feel like this would make for a better movie than book. At the end where Nina goes again Vanessa to get a more natural real reaction out of her, it'd be more interesting in film because the watcher wouldn't know if they were for or against eachother now, but in the book you can tell Nina is still on Vanessa's side.
- It was kinda out of character that Vanessa took charge at the end with conning Lachlan
- I wanted a better ending with Nina and Benny, it felt unfinished. Like Benny turned out to be slower and dumber and more medicated so Nina was uninterested? Was she ever in love with him? Are they just going to be friends then? idk... I felt like Nina should have gotten him off of all the medication and turned out that he was fine to begin and his family just felt like they needed to take some form of action with him to change him but there was actually nothing wrong with him, and they lived happily ever after :P (hide spoiler)]

Review: Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter
Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter by 50 Cent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow how 50 Cent surprised me with this book! It's a great book! Lots to learn and admire Curtis for and I have a new found respect for him.
He's giving a lot of life advice - hustle, be fearless, know your true friends, portraying yourself as you don't really want it or need it demeanor actually works with life work romance, learn from your losses, don't be entitled, and read a lot!
It's sad how other people treated him when he became successful, people acting entitled and seeing him for just money instead of a relationship. Especially his own son who he wanted to hep and work with but was too lazy and entitled to do anything. To the people he considered friends that back-stabbed him. To the reuniting of long lost friendships that he was disappointed in because all they wanted was a piece of the pie. It seems like a lonely life being rich and famous but there still are good people at the top.

Review: City of Glass
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
(2.5/5 stars) Gotta say I'm kinda disappointed in this trilogy's ending...
I give it 3 stars because I enjoyed the series and I liked the world building, and characters. But then I give it 2 stars because this book dragged on like no tomorrow.... I was actually getting annoyed lol. The ending was not surprising to me at all and I could predict what was going to happen most of the time. I have much more specific complaints in the spoilers section below.
This book is much slower paced and longer than the first couple books. Which in a way I didn't mind because we can go deeper into the characters and story, but in another way it got really repetitive and boring.
I found the new character Sebastian interesting - do we trust him, is he good or bad? And I enjoyed Simon's 'becoming of vampireness' lol I feel like he embraced it more.
What I didn't like the most was the lack of emotion when there needed to be... (see spoilers)
(view spoiler)[
- the whole Jace/Clary frustration was so over done! I couldn't stand it anymore lol Like come on you know that they're going to end up finding out that they're not actually family and be together in the end stop going on about it...
- I like how Simon was locked up in a cell next to Hodge (not Samuel) so there was a bit of an unexpected twist there
- lol the inquisitors are too inquisitive for their own good, they always end up dead.
- as i predicted Imogen died for Jayce in the previous book because she's actually his grandmother.
- This book almost feel's like in the Harry Potter series The Order of the phoenix where you meet the team with the cause and it's a bridge into the rest of the series. New characters and new setting and new situations. I am actually surprised she didn't continue this series forward instead of a prequel. You just KNOW that Sebastian is still alive lmao I know this for a fact because they couldn't find his body. That's a hanger right there.
- there was like zero emotion from Clary when Jayce got murdered... and because of this I KNEW that he wasn't actually dead or Clary would be able to bring him back.
- the 3 book villain Valentine died way too quickly for all the vengeance and all this time that's passed
- I feel like Alec and the parents Maryse and Robert were barely at all in this book. And there was literally zero character development for their father Robert Lightwood in the whole series.
- it was kinda cool with the whole Valentine torture chamber but we never got to see it in action and all we saw was a sad tortured angel that wanted to die... why did it want to die anyway, can't it heal itself if it's freed? Having Ithuriel on their team would have been amazing, and more interesting. That way the angel could take heaven upon Valentine and the city.
- I also figured that Clary and even Jayce had some part of Angel blood in them from the last book, because of their supernatural abilities of strength and creating runes. So no surprise that they had taken some angel blood when they were young. Would have been more interesting if they were somehow genetically angels though... w/e

Review: What You Say is What You Get
What You Say is What You Get by Don Gossett
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Read it half way and just couldn't stand reading any more! I'm not religious at all and this was wayyyy too PRAISE JESUS! THE ALMIGHTY! Reminds me of those religious cults in the United States that yell and scream Jesus's name and shake uncontrollably lol Sorry but this is so not for me... I guess the one thing that's a take away is that if you really believe in something it comes true, kinda like The Secret.

Review: Not a Diet Book: The Must-Have Fitness Book From the World's Favourite Personal Trainer
Not a Diet Book: The Must-Have Fitness Book From the World's Favourite Personal Trainer by James Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The best book ever on the fitness industry, advice, diet, exercise!
James Smith is "That Hashtag-Calorie-Fucking-Deficit Guy" (#CFD!) He covers a range of topics from diet, diet fads, training routines, supplements, sleep, when to eat, how to eat, motivation, and even women's menstrual cycles.
What it all comes down to in losing weight, fat, getting healthier, lowering your BMI etc is just going on a calorie deficit diet. More calories out than in will make you lose weight, it's really that simple.
All these diet fads are just some ways in consuming less calories overall, and whichever one you believe in will generally work because it's a placebo. Some others are better than others, for example Intermittent Fasting is a great way to lose fat because you're basically skipping breakfast and only consuming lunch and dinner, less calories, more weight loss.

Review: The Carrie Diaries
The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Enjoyed it! Would I re-read it? Probably not :P It's very "highschool" well actually it literally is :P It's when Carrie was in her senior year, right before she goes to New York and Brown. It's the beginning, if you will.
It has mostly all the highschool themes, cliques, fitting in, girls being mean to eachother, shitty friends, shitty boyfriends, coming out of the closet, being back stabbed by a friend, jealousy, figuring out what you want to be in life, finding out who you are, self identity, loyalty to friendships, being cheated on, trying different courses seeing what you like, wondering if a boy likes you or not.
Carrie is very annoying at times and to me unrelatable and way too forgiving and naive lol but hey she's in high school. If I had to identify with a character it probably would have been The Mouse because she actually thinks rationally, scratch that, she actually thinks properly lol
Maggie is unbelievably annoying, dumb, and emotional. I've actually known girls like Maggie though.
(view spoiler)[
I hated Sebastian... the entire time, he's one of those play boy's that think he's all that and deserves the best when he's the worst and he's self centered and dumb. But he's hot...
I thought Maggie was definitely going to become pregnant by the end lol
I liked how Carrie's sister Dorrit ended up with George because he was a really nice guy.
I like how it ended with Carrie being lost and stuck in New York and having to call her because the pretty popular girl in school gave her her number. I also like how those two ended up being friendly to eachother.

Review: Someone We Know
Someone We Know by Shari Lapena
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
2.5/5 stars
It was okay... I've read better Who dunnit' type of books.
The book starts off with family teenage drama. The mom finds out her son has been snooping into their neighbors homes. She doesn't react well and makes a mistake of writing a letter to the homes he broke into. The parents scare the boy into not doing it again. You learn about all their neighbors for the who dunnit part. The detectives ask everyone questions.. mostly everyone withholds extra info making the book longer then it should have been lol...
The entire book is centered around the Who Dunnit. There's no extra of anything which makes it just feel rushed and unimaginative.
The ending wasn't even that good.
